DELSEMME The periodic comets result from the capture,by planetary perturbations, of some of the "new" comets; whereas the "new" comets seem to have been stored in the deep freeze of the Oort's cloud since the beginning of the solar system. However, since no plausible scenario has ever been proposed to make these comets "in situ" at those large distances, it is widely believed that they were made in the protosolar nebula, then ejected into Dort's cloud by the very processes that have been at work to make the solar system (4).
