During 1994–96, the CCSSO convened the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC), and ASCD served as a member of this group. Working under a special grant, the ISLLC developed standards for school leaders’ preparation, professional development, and performance. The consortium approved the standards in November 1996, and 35 states have since adopted the ISLLC standards as a framework for administrator preparation programs or have used these standards as the basis for their own administrator performance assessments.
