IRONING DOLL CLOTHES • Use the lowest temperature possible that will still pro- duce steam. Cover the garment with a thin pressing cloth. Test a small area before your start. Work slowly.

For dried stains, soak the item in a solution of one part borax and six parts water. For sturdy fabrics, pour boiling water through the stain until the spot disappears. Blood. Soak the item in cold water then wash with mild soap and tepid water. Stubborn stains may be removed, from cotton only, by soaking in a solution of sodium hypochlorite. Or Put a paste of water and cornstarch, cornmeal, or talcum powder on fresh spots. Let dry and brush off. Or Cover fresh or dried blood with meat tenderizer and add cool water.

SEASONING CAST IRON COOKWARE • To season a new cast iron skillet or griddle (or one that has been scoured), rub lightly with vegetable shortening. Coat both the exterior and the interior. Heat the utensil in a 250-degree oven for two hours. Vegetable oil is not recommended. It tends to leave a sticky coating. • The first few times you use cast iron utensils, cook foods high in fat, such as fried chicken or bacon, to build up the seasoning. • Wash cast iron after it has cooled with a little dishwashing liquid.
