Hitler was responsible for the European theater of World War II (1939–1945) and the deaths of at least 43 million people on all sides. EARLY LIFE Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, in Braunau in upper Austria. His father was a government bureaucrat, working at the nearby border crossing between Germany and Austria.
