Whilst this chapter has concentrated on the very real competitive challenge from the East Asian economies for UK industry, it should be emphasized that through its fast-growing appetite for imports and its burgeoning foreign direct investment the Orient Express is also a potentially important source of dynamism and re-invigoration for the UK economy.
